Jessie is a 6.5 year old Romanian mixed breed (born November 2019), weighing approx. 22kg. She has a beautiful tan coat and has been a much-loved member of her current family since she was adopted in May 2020.
She was originally adopted through Halfway Home Dog Rescue, which has now closed down, so we have been asked by Jessie’s current family to help her find a new home
She is a gentle, affectionate dog with the people she knows and trusts, but she needs time and patience to build confidence with new people.
Jessie would thrive with an experienced dog owner who understands nervous dogs and can provide calm, confident leadership, clear boundaries and consistency.
We believe she would be happiest in:
An adult-only home.
A home where she is the only pet.
A quieter environment with owners who are happy to let her settle at her own pace.
Jessie has so many lovely qualities. She enjoys:
- Bum scratches and affection from her trusted people.
- Zoomies around the garden.
- Sniffing walks and exploring new scents.
- Sunbathing whenever she gets the chance.
- Playing "find the treat" and other enrichment games.
- Gentle walks. She enjoys going out but doesn't need long hikes.
- Relaxing at home, where she is calm and settled.
She is fully house-trained and can comfortably be left for up to six hours without becoming distressed.
Although her current family feel she should be the only dog in her new home, she has formed positive friendships with dogs who have calm, playful body language. Many of the attached photos show her happily spending time with her ‘grandparents’ Labrador.
Jessie can be a nervous dog, and her anxiety can sometimes present as reactivity towards unfamiliar people and, occasionally, other dogs. She can also display resource guarding behaviours, particularly within the home, where she feels protective of her safe space and the people she trusts.
These behaviours are well understood by her current family and with appropriate management and an experienced owner, Jessie is able to enjoy a happy, settled life.
It has been an incredibly difficult decision for the family and not one they have taken lightly.
However, after welcoming their new baby, Jessie has unfortunately struggled to adapt to having a young child in the home. After seeking advice and carefully managing the situation, they feel that the safest and kindest decision, for both Jessie and the family, is to find her a home that better suits her needs.
She deserves a home where she can be the centre of someone's world again and receive the time, attention and environment that allows her to thrive.
They love Jessie so much, and their priority is finding the right home, not the quickest one. They are happy to answer any questions and share more about her personality, routine and needs with potential adopters. Following a successful home check.
